Know the rule

The 48 hours a fortnight rule, in plain English

Most student visas carry condition 8105. While your course is in session you can work up to 48 hours per fortnight. During official course breaks (the holidays your provider publishes) there is no limit.

48 h

Per fortnight, all jobs combined

Delivery for Uber Eats, DoorDash, Menulog or HungryPanda counts, and so does a café or retail job. Add them all together.

∞

Unlimited in official breaks

Between semesters you can ride as much as you like. Check your provider’s academic calendar for the exact dates.

!

Keep your own record

Delivery apps don’t add up your hours across other apps and jobs. If you’re unsure how online or waiting time is counted, check with Home Affairs before you ride extra.

Why it matters: breaching a visa condition can put your visa at risk. If you are unsure how your hours are counted, ask Home Affairs or a registered migration agent before you pick up extra shifts.

Study Hours Guard keeps count for you

Tap Start shift and End shift in the free rider app and Study Hours Guard adds up your hours for the current fortnight. Add hours from other jobs too. As you get close to 48, it warns you so you can plan the rest of the fortnight.

  • Private. Your hours and visa details stay on your phone. We don’t see them.
  • Fair Pay Check. Compares what each delivery app paid you with the Fair Work minimum of $31.30 per engaged hour.
  • Tax pack. Income, rent paid and expenses in one printable summary for your tax agent.
  • 10 languages, including Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Spanish and Portuguese.

A fortnight on 48 hours

Example only: 3 lunch shifts of 3 hours and 3 dinner shifts of 4 hours a week = 21 hours a week, 42 a fortnight. That leaves 6 hours for anything else.

At the Fair Work minimum of $31.30 per engaged hour, the $42.80 weekly rent on an 18-week plan equals under 1.5 hours of paid delivery time. Engaged time is when you are on a job, not waiting, and actual earnings vary.

Prices

Student prices and the $75 deposit

Students pay the same as everyone else. The only difference you might hear about is the deposit: on a Student visa it is $75, refundable when the bike comes back in good condition. ($500 applies only on a Working Holiday or Tourist visa.)

Food delivery e-bikes (20″ folding or 26″/29″ full-size), minimum hire 3 weeks. After your first 12 weeks, your next 2 weeks are free. Second battery $45/week. Helmet, lock, lights and phone holder included.

Match your plan to your semester. A 12-week plan covers most of a teaching period, and after your first 12 weeks the next 2 are free, so 14 weeks of riding costs $599.88. If you stay for the break, an 18-week plan is the cheapest per week. Ending any contract early keeps the deposit plus one extra week’s rent.

Included

Helmet, lock, lights and phone holder. Free wear-and-tear labour at our workshop for the whole hire: punctures, brakes, gears and servicing.

Free daily coffee

Riders with a bike on hire and rent up to date get a free daily coffee at Panda & Co. Indooroopilly.

How to start

  1. Check your licence. From 31 August 2026, Queensland requires e-bike riders to be 16+ and hold at least a learner licence (Queensland, interstate or overseas). Your overseas licence or a QLD learner licence works.
  2. Book online. Choose a delivery e-bike (20″ folding or 26″/29″ full-size) and a plan, then pay the first week plus the $75 deposit.
  3. Pick up in Indooroopilly. 5/8 Lambert Road, a minute’s walk from Indooroopilly Station. Bring your passport or driver licence and the card for weekly rent. We fit the helmet and show you the bike.
  4. Open the rider app. Add it to your home screen, turn on Study Hours Guard, and start your first shift.

Open Mon–Fri 10am–4pm, Sat 10am–2pm. Closed Sundays and Queensland public holidays.

Student questions

Can international students rent an e-bike in Brisbane?

Yes. You need to be 18 or over and bring a passport or a driver licence (Australian or overseas), plus a debit or credit card for weekly rent. From 31 August 2026 Queensland also requires e-bike riders to hold at least a learner licence (Queensland, interstate or overseas).

How much is the deposit for students?

$75, refundable, the same as local riders. The higher $500 deposit only applies on a Working Holiday or Tourist visa, not a Student visa.

Does delivery work count towards my 48 hours a fortnight?

Yes. Under student visa condition 8105 the 48-hour limit per fortnight while your course is in session covers all paid work combined, including delivery for any app. Hours are unlimited during official course breaks. This is general information, not visa advice: check Home Affairs or a registered migration agent.

What is Study Hours Guard?

A tracker inside our free rider app. When you start and end shifts it adds up your hours for the current fortnight and warns you as you get close to 48. The data stays private on your phone. It is a helper, not legal advice, and you are responsible for your own visa conditions.

What happens if I go home for the holidays or finish my course early?

You can shorten or end the hire in the app. On a longer plan, ending early means the weeks you rode stay at your contract rate, one extra week's rent is charged as an early-exit fee and the deposit is kept, so pick a plan that fits your semester.

Can I use the e-bike just to get to uni?

Of course. Plenty of students ride to UQ St Lucia, which is a short ride from our Indooroopilly shop, and use the same bike for a few delivery shifts a week.
