E-bike rental on a Working Holiday in Brisbane
Land in Brisbane, pick up an e-bike and start earning. Weekly plans from $42.80 a week, free wear-and-tear labour, helmet and lock included. Here is everything up front: the $500 deposit, the 18-week plan, the licence rule and what happens if you leave early.
No surprises
The $500 deposit, explained
On a Working Holiday or Tourist visa the refundable security deposit is $500. For everyone else, including international students, it is $75. It is one deposit per booking, paid with your first week’s rent.
Why it’s higher
Travellers sometimes move on suddenly. The deposit covers us if a bike, key or battery isn’t returned, so we can keep weekly rent low for everyone.
When you get it back
When the bike comes back in good condition at the end of your contract, the deposit is refunded. Damage or missing items are charged at our workshop prices.
Cancelling before pick-up
The deposit is refunded in full. The first week’s rent is non-refundable.
Best value
The 18-week plan: $42.80 a week
Most Working Holiday riders stay in Brisbane for a few months. The 18-week contract is our lowest weekly price, about $6.11 a day.
18 weeks of riding, what you pay:
Weeks 1–12: 12 × $42.80 = $513.60
Weeks 13–14: free (after your first 12 weeks are ridden and paid)
Weeks 15–18: 4 × $42.80 = $171.20
Total rent: $684.80 for 18 weeks, plus the refundable $500 deposit.
For scale: at the Fair Work minimum of $31.30 per engaged hour, a week’s rent equals under 1.5 hours of paid delivery time. Earnings are not guaranteed.

Queensland rules
The licence rule (from 31 August 2026)
To ride an e-bike in Queensland you must be 16 or over and hold at least a learner licence. A Queensland, interstate or overseas licence counts, so most backpackers can ride on their home licence.
- Helmet on, every ride ($518 fine).
- 12 km/h on footpaths and when passing pedestrians on shared paths.
- Phone in the handlebar holder only; holding it costs $1,295.
- Random breath tests apply to e-bike riders: the limit is 0.05.
- The motor assists to 25 km/h; our bikes are 250 W and road-legal.

Plans change
The early-exit rule
Found farm work up north, or flying home sooner? You can end any contract early. This is exactly what happens:
- The weeks you rode stay at your contract rate (no back-charging at a higher price).
- One extra week’s rent at your contract rate is charged as the early-exit fee.
- The security deposit is kept.
Example: on the 18-week plan you leave after 10 weeks. You have paid 10 × $42.80 = $428. The exit fee is one more week, $42.80, and the $500 deposit is kept.
If you think you’ll be here for less than 18 weeks, compare a shorter plan: it costs more per week but ends without the fee.
Working Holiday questions
Why is the deposit $500 on a Working Holiday visa?
Working Holiday and Tourist visa holders are more likely to leave Australia at short notice, so the refundable deposit is $500 instead of $75. It is refunded after the bike is returned in good condition. Everyone else, including international students, pays $75.
Do I need a licence to ride an e-bike in Queensland?
Yes, from 31 August 2026 e-bike riders must be 16 or over and hold at least a learner licence. A Queensland, interstate or overseas licence counts. Bring it, or your passport, to pick up.
What happens if I leave Brisbane before my contract ends?
You can end any contract early. The weeks you rode stay at your contract rate, one extra week's rent is charged as an early-exit fee, and the security deposit is kept. Tell us in the app as soon as your plans change.
Which plan is best for a Working Holiday?
If you are staying in Brisbane for four months or more, the 18-week plan at $42.80 a week is the lowest weekly price, and after your first 12 weeks the next 2 are free. If your plans are uncertain, a 4-, 8- or 12-week plan costs more per week but has a shorter commitment.
Can I do food delivery on a Working Holiday visa?
Generally yes, delivery is paid work like any other, but check your own visa conditions with Home Affairs. Delivery riders are usually independent contractors who need an ABN and look after their own tax.
